This retreat offers 4 immersive workshop days with Robyn McClendon and Alex Castro Ferreira, thoughtfully structured into two sessions per day—a total of 8 creative sessions.

Each day unfolds as a layered artistic journey, where process, material, and meaning gradually come together.

You will:

• Create intuitive collage work with Robyn, culminating in a personal reading and reflection
• Explore the alchemy of beeswax on paper and canvas, building depth and texture
• Stitch your pieces into rusty wire structures, forming whimsical, sculptural compositions
• Assemble found objects, tin boxes, and matchboxes using epoxy sculpt, transforming fragments into narrative forms
• Craft tiny scrolls, intimate and tactile
• Work with fabric, embedding it with beeswax
• Each session is designed to be both guided and intuitive, allowing space for experimentation, personal expression, and deep creative immersion.

This is not just a workshop…it is a slow unfolding of your own visual story, held within a supportive and inspiring studio environment.

Papers & Ephemera

• Wet strength paper (medical-grade paper on rolls is ideal)
• Thin papers of all kinds: tissue, rice paper, deli paper, vintage papers
• Lightweight ephemera: old documents, book pages, found papers
• Personal collage elements you would like to embed into your scrolls

Note: Materials will be layered using a three-ply method — thinner papers work best.

Fabrics

• Small fabric pieces (approx. 6–8 inches or smaller)
• Fabric strips such as sari silk (pre-ironed and ready to use)
• Thin, lightweight fabrics only: silk, cotton, or linen

Avoid thick or bulky textiles, as fabrics will be collaged directly into the scrolls.

Stitching Materials

• Hand sewing needles
• Threads: embroidery floss, cotton thread, or waxed linen thread (bookbinding thread is ideal)

We will use slow stitching techniques inspired by Boro and Sashiko traditions.

Gel Plate Printing Supplies

• Gel plate (recommended sizes: 6×6 or 8×10)
• Brayer
• Acrylic paints (limited palette: 4–5 colors)

We will work with a fragments-based approach — a small palette is more than enough.

Mark Making & Imagery Tools

• Stencils (your favorites)
• Glue gun masks or handmade stencils
• Rubber or clear stamps

Silk Road collection stamps are especially suitable, but any symbolic or textural imagery works beautifully.

• Permanent ink (stamp pads in your chosen colors)
  Essential to prevent bleeding when layering.

Adhesives

• PVA glue (white glue)
• Glue stick
• Tombow liquid clear glue

Basic Tools

A Note on Materials

You do not need to bring large quantities of supplies.
We will be working in an intimate, layered, fragments-based approach, and a carefully curated selection of materials will serve you far better than an abundance.
